TIPS In general, to prune hydrangeas it is best to wait until the end of winter and when there is no frost. Cut the old branches, they are the most woody, they are usually in the center of the hydrangea. Cut young branches up to half their length, they are about 3 years old. Don´t cut the suckers, they are the youngest branches, their stem usually starts from the base of the plant.
